An Unfamiliar Path

– Monday Muse –

Dear One, even though we know that life is constantly changing, we like to move through ours days thinking that devastating changes only happen to others. Although our own path may not be smooth, it is our path, we are familiar with it and, as of yet, have no plan to deviate from it.

Yes, we are accustomed to changes…change…that is…for others. When we hear that someone we know lost a job, a spouse, a child, a home, or suffered some other great loss, we are saddened. We sympathize and, if possible, offer comfort to the grieving, but our lives, for the most part, go on as they had before. They must. We are not capable of carrying the troubles of this world on our shoulders, only God can do that.

Sometime ago, I remember talking with someone who had suffered sorrowing loss. He said, “The world should stop. Everything should stop! It has for me, but it is going on…as if what happened makes no difference, no difference at all.”

Life as he knew it had come to a jerking halt, much like the abrupt end of a carnival ride. Slammed with a thud, up against a cold world, he shakily gathered up loose ends, and dizzily stepped out on uneven ground – incapable of fully recovering his equilibrium. Of this he was sure, it would take more than he possessed to navigate a path so unfamiliar to him.

I, too, am in the midst of change, one which I did not anticipate, one which is changing the daily routine of my life. The familiar is giving way to the unknown while confidence floods the gaps. For in the midst is…God…my loving Father, guiding my way over an unfamiliar path. With God as Guide, Peace is my companion. Wherever it leads me, I have confidence that it is the direction in which God desires for me…for peace abounds…abounds.

At times like these the questions which most Christians ask is, “How does anyone navigate through life’s trials without God? Does one find peace?” It seems that they do find, through various means, what they assume is peace, but until a person intimately knows the One True God the peace they know is not of the miraculous life-guiding type (*See below: for help in knowing God.). That is accessed through the wondrous Indwelling Holy Spirit.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27 NIV

Blessings,
Susanne

Knowing God

Many believers are unaware of the intimate relationship God desires to have with us. Often sermons, and conversations, refer to such a relationship, with little, if any, instructions on how to draw into life-changing fellowship with God. Thus, few listeners are guided through helpful steps for developing one. This website is dedicated to the purpose of knowing God and making Him known.
