The Love of God

– Secret Place Insights –

Dear One, midweek, Ron and I were invited to the home of a man who was turning 94. He had years ago served with Ron on a phone calling team. They made calls to people who had not been to church lately – for the purpose of offering help and encouragement. Ron would often talk about his calling partner. Even though I did not know the man well, I began to admire him.

Many years after the calling-partnership ended, I was looking for people to be a part of a small prayer ministry. I thought of Ron’s friend, and invited him to join the little group. He accepted. And that began a more than decade long friendship. Did we see each other often? No, but the friendship was deep and heartfelt. I felt blessed to share even the smallest part of the man’s life. We would talk on the phone – sometimes once a month or so. When our conversation ended, I was grateful to have shared conversation with him. His topics varied, but were always interesting, of value and God-centered.

There came a time at the party when all fifteen of us were gathered in the living room. There, in that space, flowed a warm, deep sense of love and connectedness…a tender precious joy. I was asked to read one of our friend’s favorite true stories. It was about an elderly woman who through intercessory prayer had changed the lives of many within her community. When I finished the read, it seemed so evident, that we were in the presence of a man who was much like the woman in the story. He was a man of God, a man of prayer, a man who from his home was changing lives for the cause of Christ.

It had to be his love for God and His people that drew each of us to him. We attended the party for the purpose of honoring him, but through his love he honored us. The memory of those moments will always be among the ‘best of.’

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of
God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. He who does not love does not
know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8

Blessings,
Susanne

Knowing God

Many believers are unaware of the intimate relationship God desires to have with us. Often sermons, and conversations, refer to such a relationship, with little, if any, instructions on how to draw into life-changing fellowship with God. Thus, few listeners are guided through helpful steps for developing one. This website is dedicated to the purpose of knowing God and making Him known.
