Apple Pie Tradition

Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Dash of salt
  • 8 cups thinly sliced pared Macintosh apples
  • 3 tablespoons butter
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Prepare pastry for 9-inch pie..
  3. Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Mix with apples.
  5. Let set 15 minutes.
  6. Press apples together, and place in shell.
  7. Press down again.
  8. Dot with butter.
  9. Cover with top crust which has slits cut in it;
  10. Seal and flute.
  11. Cover edge with 2 to 3 inch strip of aluminum foil.
  12. Remove foil last 15 minutes of baking.
  13. Bake 65 to 75 minutes, until juice begins to bubble through slits.
  14. Check apples with fork.
  15. Because of large amount of apples in a small pan the longer baking is necessary.
  16. For the long bake, I also cover the center of the pie with foil with a slit in it.
  17. I remove it when I remove the other foil.
