Mom's Homemade Ice Cream

Ingredients
  • Vanilla Ice Cream for a Four-Quart Electric Maker
  • 6 cups half and half
  • 3 & ¼ cups whip cream
  • 2. 5 cups sugar
  • 2 - plus teaspoons vanilla
  • 6 large raw eggs, beaten
  • 3 & ½ cups rock salt
  • 14 lbs ice
Instructions
  1. Mix together, chill in refrigerator.
  2. Place in ice cream maker to full mark on cylinder.
  3. Around the cylinder, pack with 2 inches of ice.
  4. Add ¼ cup rock salt.
  5. Repeat to just below surface of cylinder.
  6. Do not allow salt to enter the cylinder.
  7. Add ice and salt as needed.
  8. Plug in ice cream maker.
  9. While it turns, add ice and salt.
  10. Push down with end of wooden spoon.
  11. Let it turn until motor struggles.
  12. Unplug ice maker.
  13. Cover with heavy towels for an hour or more…
  14. or remove paddle and place in freezer…
  15. or scoop into container and place in freezer.
