– Monday Muse –
Dear One, I have heard people say that they cannot believe in God for He most likely does not exist. When I hear that I think, huh, what have we got to lose by believing in God? He teaches us how we are to live through His Word, such teachings as live honorable, moral lives, treat others as we would like to be treated. And He gives us the Indwelling Holy Spirit to help us carryout what He teaches. On top of that, He promises us eternal life with Him in Heaven. What’s not to like? Bodily death is simply a change of address to either Heaven or Hell.
If it turns out not to be true, would we actually regret having lived a life of treating others as we would like to be treated?
As for me, I have no doubt of God’s existence. I believe that the God of the Bible is who He says He is, I trust Scripture. For the Bible is the most authenticated book of all antiquities. And, throughout my life, God has proven Himself over and over again. (For information on the authenticity of the Bible go to Home Page. On the lower, far right, click on Going Deeper. Scroll to The Reliability of the Biblical Documents.)
If we are true believers, meaning that we have taken Jesus Christ as our Savior, and Lord, that we live to carryout His example as depicted in the New Testament – we have Heaven in our future.
Does this mean that once we are Christians that life will be easy? No, but we will be blessed. Blessed how? Blessed by the presence of God while living out a life of eternal purpose. If God took on the role of our Genie-in-a-bottle, who then would be God? We certainly are not equipped to fulfill that role. Remaining faithful through the hardships of life, while experiencing the love and guidance of God, builds faith and helps to encourage others.
For those who are in doubt I say again, “You have nothing to lose by believing. How could one go wrong by believing in God who asks us to be good?
“…and if we (Christians) die, we die to the Lord. Therefore,
Whether we live or doe, we are the Lord’s.” Romans 14:8
